“Sapphire” by Diamond Thug – A Song Review

“Sapphire” is not a song that readily reveals its South African origin. It doesn’t have a strong “world” rhythm. Still, it has a vibe that isn’t typical of songs from one of the big-three Indie continents (Europe, Australia, North America).

The intro is masterful, as cooperative guitars and percussion define the vehicle on which the vocals will ride. When the voice climbs on, the listener is attentive. Diamond Thug describes their genre as Space-Age Folk-Rock.

Diamond Thug is from Cape Town. The members are Chantel Van T (vocals, keys), Danilo Queiros (bass, production), Adrian Culhane (guitar, synth, backing vocals, production), and Ted Buxton (drums). “Sapphire” is a track from the album “Apastron."

Lyrics of “Sapphire” by Diamond Thug
Fever in me
Fever, cold shots
Through the night
Oh, it winds me
Rips breath from my lungs
Racing with oxygen
To control the air

Fire in the darkness
Fire sipping with
Sapphire in the air [Repeat 2x]

Empty myself
Guided by Kepler’s Laws
Let it move me
Take me off my course

Fire in the darkness
Fire sipping with
Sapphire in the air [Repeat 4x]

Fever in me.
Fever, cold shots through the night
Oh, it winds me
Catch fire in the dark
