“Young High” by The Racer - A Song Review

It is appropriate to feature a running-related song in the hours leading to the Boston Marathon. The Racer continues to generate blogworthy songs. “Young Racer” is the latest. The basis for the track:
“Young High follows a character who is going for a run and is doing so to try to find himself and hold on to his youthful enthusiasm for life. He’s still dreaming. He’s still chasing. He’s in it for the long haul. It’s a feeling he gets while running that reminds him of who he is and the challenge of finishing the run that makes him want to keep going in life when everything is telling him to stop.”

The Racer is a band from Monroe, NY. The members are Pete Marotta (vocals, keys), Mike Esserman (guitar, keys), Steve Kondracki (guitar, keys), Eric Sosler (bass, keys), and Mike Perri (drums, percussion).

Lyrics of “Young High” by The Racer
Hidden in the mile
Hidden in the mile where you run
Hidden in your heart
Hidden in your heart when you run
Hidden when it’s cold out
Hidden in the middle of the sun
Hidden in the mile
Hidden in the mile where you run
Where you run

Young high you’re all I hope for
Young high you’re all I hope to see
You’re all I ever want to be

Healing on the bear route
Hidden on the lake where you had won
Healing in the burn out
Healing in the middle when you run

Hidden never found now
Feel it gliding by them one by one
Hidden in the mile
Hidden in the mile where you run
May you run

Young high you’re all I hope for
Young high in all its evergreen
You’re all I ever want to be
Want to be

[Guitar-driven instrumental]

When lungs are failing, panic is in order, order
When all opinions tell you how it’s over, over
May you run
May you run

Hidden in the mile
Hidden in the mile when you run
Hidden when it’s cold out
Hidden in the middle of the sun
May you run
May you run
May you run.
